Koh Panyi (Floating Muslim Village) in Thailand

Village of Ko Panyi, Phang Nga Bay, Thailand

In the late 1700s, at least two Malay fishing families made their way up into Phang Nga Bay in what is present-day Thailand. Despite their nomadic lifestyle, they stayed docked on this small karst outcropping and created the floating village called Ko Panyi. Tourism brings outsiders to the village, but fishing remains the main focus of the economy.

Fazlur Rahman Khan (3 April 1929 – 27 March 1982) was a Bangladeshi-American structural engineer and architect who initiated important structural systems for skyscrapers. He is recognized as one of the most influential engineers and architects of the 20th century, and has been called "the father of tubular designs for high-rises" by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Khan was also a pioneer in computer-aided design. He is the designer of the Willis Tower, the second-tallest building in the United States and the 100-story John Hancock Center.

Al-Biruni, a polymath, Founder of Indology and geodesy

Al-Biruni is regarded as one of the greatest scholars of the medieval Islamic era and was well versed in physics, mathematics, astronomy, and natural sciences, and also distinguished himself as a historian, chronologist and linguist. He was conversant in Khwarezmian, Persian, Arabic, Sanskrit, and also knew Greek, Hebrew and Syriac. He spent a large part of his life in Ghazni in modern-day Afghanistan, capital of the Ghaznavid dynasty which was based in what is now central-eastern Afghanistan. In 1017 he traveled to the Indian subcontinent and authored “Tahrikh Al-Hind” (History of India) after visiting India. He is given the titles the "founder of Indology". He was an impartial writer on custom and creeds of various nations, and was given the title al-Ustadh ("The Master") for his remarkable description of early 11th-century India. He also made contributions to Earth sciences, and is regarded as the "father of geodesy" for his important contributions to that field, along with his significant contributions to geography.

Dubai fire for 31st night fireworks celebration


Dubai: Smoke was still rising from a 63-storey luxury hotel in Dubai today as authorities worked to determine the cause of a spectacular fire that engulfed the building on New Year's Eve.
The huge blaze at The Address Downtown hotel erupted around 9:30 pm (1730 GMT) on Thursday, sparking panic but no reports of serious injuries.
Authorities went ahead with a dazzling fireworks display at the nearby Burj Khalifa -- the world's tallest skyscraper -- despite the inferno, the latest in a series of fires in recent years to hit the buildings that make up Dubai's futuristic cityscape.

Abraj Al-Bait Tower (ابراج البيت) or Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel


The Abraj Al-Bait Towers, also known as the Makkah Royal Clock Tower Hotel, is a government-owned megatall building complex in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. These towers are a part of the King Abdulaziz Endowment Project that strives to modernize the city in catering to its pilgrims. The central hotel building has the world's largest clock face and is the third tallest building and fourth tallest freestanding structure in the world. The building complex is metres away from the world's largest mosque and Islam's most sacred site, the Masjid al-Haram. The developer and contractor of the complex is the Saudi Binladin Group, the Kingdom's largest construction company.

The tallest tower in the complex stands as the tallest building in Saudi Arabia, with a height of 601 metres (1,972 feet). Currently it is the fourth tallest freestanding structure in the world, surpassing Taipei 101 in Taipei, Taiwan, but still is behind the Shanghai Tower in Shanghai, China, the Tokyo Sky Tree in Tokyo, Japan and the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Madinah University: Islamic University of al-Madinah al-Munawarah [الجامعة الإسلامية بالمدينة المنورة]

The Islamic University of al-Madinah al-Munawarah (Arabic: الجامعة الإسلامية بالمدينة المنورة) was founded by the government of Saudi Arabia by a royal decree in 1961 in the Islamic holy city of Medina.

University students may study Sharia, Qur'an, Dawah/Usul al-din, Hadith, and Arabic. The university offers Bachelor of Arts degrees and also Master's and Doctorate Degrees. Studies at the College of Sharia Islamic law were the first to start when the university opened.

Yusuf Hamied, chairman of Cipla

Padma Bhushan Yusuf Khwaja Hamied is born at 25 July 1936 in a respected Muslim family at  Vilnius, Lithuania, Yusuf was raised up in Bombay. He is a leading Indian scientist and chairman of Cipla, a socially conscious generic Pharmaceuticals company founded by his father Khwaja Abdul Hamied in 1935.
He holds a Ph.D. in chemistry. Hamied has led efforts to eradicate AIDS in the developing world and to give patients life-saving medicines regardless of their ability to pay, and has often been characterized as a modern-day Robin Hood figure as a result. Under Yusuf's leadership, Cipla became the first company to offer the triple drug cocktail, Triomune that helps fight against HIV and AIDS at prices lower than those available internationally.

Governors regulate the speed of engine, when there are vibration in the load. Its speed decreases, when the load on an engine increases. It becomes necessary to increases the supply of working fluid. When the load on engine decreases, its speed increases and thus less working fluid is required.

Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (A. P. J. Abdul Kalam) is a renowned aerospace engineer, professor (of Aerospace engineering), and first Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram (IIST), who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007. During his term as President, he was popularly known as the People's President. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor in 1997.
